Sandpoint, located at the top of the Idaho Panhandle, is a small community with a big heart. We are getting ready to celebrate Winter Carnival this week and it will be kicked off with a homespun Parade of Lights through the downtown streets and will end with fireworks on the hill at Schweitzer Mountain Ski Resort. Sadly, our community experienced a tragic fire on Monday morning. Thankfully there were no lives lost and no one was injured but there was catastrophic damage done to a 100+ year old building at the corner of Bridge and Main in downtown Sandpoint. There were also 5 businesses that were lost. See the article in the Spokesman Review for additional details.
The beauty of living and working in a small town is that neighbors pitch in and assist quickly when disaster strikes. There is a fundraiser already being planned, by Lauren Adair, to help the plight of the businesses that were lost to the fire. It will be held February 23 at 4:00 p.m. at 317 N First Avenue. The call to action was "Come join us and see how the Power of Community will help us rise above the ashes."
